T500 frame Mods

This is series of images to display some of the issues that a full on race frame design needs to deal with to be competitive. The most obvious thing is that the stock frame needs a support welded in to stiffen up the area around the engine. this modification will disqualify a bike from simple clubmen races which were really created for amatuers to roll up to a track and race with their streetbikes. The conversion is done with 2 diagonal tubes, welded or brazed in. The next issue is the front end. Depending on the rules of the race or personal preferences, you can have one of several front ends to choose from. Most race bikes that conform to AHRMA rules go after the GT 750 4 leading drum shoe brake. You can also put on a single or dual disk setup.

The rear subframe has been chopped off just past the shock mounts to lighten things up. (upper left corner)

Arrows point to welded in supports.

Another frame showing similar frame mods. Note curved tubing. This is probably to provide better access to engine area. Once the carbs, battery, and other stuff get put in, space can get tight.

This is a better picture of how the engine fits in to a race braced frame.

Another, race braced frame. Note the longer frame extensions beyond the shock mounts.

Rickman stuff makes anything look cool.

This very advanced frame has a watercooled engine. It is a HiTac Suzuki 500 engine in a genuine Seeley frame, rider was the famous Charly W. Sanby!(Thanks to Karl Hübben for the info)

This is a Dresda T500

This is the distinctive front hub for the Suzuki GT 750 4 leading drum shoe brake. It is a copy of a Fontana unit, stops well, and is very heavy. It is usually the first thing that is changed on a T500 if disk brakes are not prefered.

This is another view of the GT 750 4 leading drum shoe brake.

The swingarm is another area for improvement. This particular swingarm has a brace welded on top. It is probably not necessary. But it could be made shorter to decrease the bikes wheelbase or better cornering.

Classic, simple, cheap and plentiful. If you need a part, you don't have to go to Italy.
